New Release: The Carp on the Chopping Block Jumps Twice, Chapter Three

I don’t read Carp, but thank you for your hard work all the same - and here’s to hoping that chapter four goes well. 160 pages? Once you’re done with THAT, you’ll definitely deserve a clap on the back - and a nap. XD

I haven’t downloaded the comic yet, but felt I had to comment on your note - it’s so great! I like the little hair curl too (I almost think of it as a ‘horn’ sometimes), but sometimes, during a very dramatic scene or such, it sticks out…well, like a cute, curly, hair-horn.

I’m interested in this older project, too! I’ve read some older works (like Shichigatsu Shanghai 1999…if that’s the right title) and others, and yeah, her work is different, but one of the best parts of following an author for so long is seeing how they change over time. The look is decent enough to not take from the piece at all - for me, anyway. And it makes me laugh a bit, because it (the style) looks sooooo 90s.

Anyway, off I go to read the chapter - yeah it was a wait, but you do great work, so it’s worth it! Thanks again for your updates on the status of this project.

My heart hurts! I just have to say I really hated basically everyone in this chapter except of course for Imagase.

Btw, I do agree with you about Mizushiro-sensei’s artwork…I think the earlier chapters were more refined. I prefer her style then than in this latest chapter.

my face is contorted in pain because this chapter was so so so sad. i fear and anticipate chapter 4. fear that the ending will be even more sad or ruefully bittersweet. anticipate that it might be happy or hopeful. from the comments i’ve read i’m leaning more towards fear and sadness. why can’t imagase get what he wants? because real life doesn’t have these climatic love triumphs. here’s hoping for the best.

This chapter makes your heart bleed, can’t stop my tears. But I love the story, it feels more real than your ordinary BL stories. Ootomo’s constant denial is killing me (!!) but I guess that’s natural; it’s not that easy to change the sexual preference just because of a gay is making out his way to you.

wow hun thanks alot for ch 3!! it was so sad it made my chest clutch; i really hope everything works out in chapter 4. I hate that he ran into the first bed he could find … guess thats just his character even if it is disagreeable.

Kyouichi, your irritating propensity to rationalize everything finally exploded in your face, huh? I only hope that Imagase is happy in the end, whatever path he may take. Dysfunctional or otherwise, I cant help but love these two together, but as long as Imagase finds some sort of happiness or comfort as the story progresses, I think I can live with any sort of ending…open or otherwise.

im crying so hard right now! how could he do that to imagase?! i cant wait to see what will happen in the next chapter. I hope setona mizushiro will make another volume so that i can see more of this couple (ex-couple)

Once again, this chapter was well worth the wait! This chapter was a roller coaster ride - Kyouichi’s indeciveness, Imagase’s desperate love, that thrilling moment when you think things are going to work out… and then the sudden disintegration of it all. No matter how dysfunctional, you want them to end up together, but then you can forgive them if they don’t… Waiting with bated breath for chapter 4, and whatever conclusion it brings!

Let me just say I’m extremely grateful for all the hard work you’ve been putting into making this available for us to read. I just finished reading chapter three and I’m in tears. This manga always does that to me. I love it and I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to read it, which wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for you. I will be patiently awaiting (even if unwillingly patient) chapter four.

this makes me sad, I actually saw the raw and by the looks of her drawing and some symbolism, it makes me really sad… it pisses me off why he can’t tell his feelings right away ><

to be honest, I’m starting to hate josei gals, I know it’s not their fault. I rarely hate josei gals (You may refer Yamada Yugi girls) then again, this genre is for josei with yaoi tone on it. It is reality, and some it say reality really sucks. After I read that chapter, I switched to somewhat happy story…

I dunno if I can continue to read, because it’s too painful to finish it since I kinda know the ending T_T

I really got to love mizushiro setona with this manga and now i reading lots of her others works.

and really i can’t imagine how could a manga can be like this one. the story is so deeply and sad that i love it. it differs completely of lots of other BL manga. and that makes is so very special. I always loved this kind of genre, but in never cried so much over a manga. but everything felt so real and just absorbed me into this incredible story.

Oh thank you, this story is really good and is one of my fav! I have a stupid question (sorry about that), is this book is, or is going to be licensed in English? It’s already licensed in French (the release of the second book, and the second edition of the first book with more extras is for October) and usually French releases came long after English ones.

I really hate this. It’s so damn sad! And still I love it so much… because it is sad and gets in my heart. I couldn’t stop crying while reading this chapter, I hoped so much he’d realise that everything Imagase said about him, he also loves about Imagase… he did, but much too late! And now I’m crying and looking at japanese scans of the next chapter… and crying even more. It doesn’t look good, I hate that! I have the feeling I can’t live with a happy or with a sad end… So I want to too be happy, damnit! I don’t want to cry this much again….

The emotion in the words comes through poignantly and I find myself on the verge of crying nearly every chapter.

That was heartbreaking *sob*, but in a really beautiful way. I really thought Ootomo was maturing into the relationship and himself as a person. Maybe that’s the real reason he let Imagase go, because he would never truly be able to acknowledge their relationship.

Wow. This is one of the most heart wrenching BL- of any genre- manga’s I’ve ever read. It’s almost painful to read and I get so caught up in the characters that actually wish for them to have those sappy happy endings that I hate in other works. I’ve read chap 3 almost five times over and my throat still get’s a bit lumpy. I haven’t been so eagerly anticipating a chapter for such a long time.

Thank you for taking this series up! I usually find the angst in manga to be tediously unrealistic, but I found myself choking back sobs after the third chapter.

As for the ending of the fourth, I’ve seen the raws, and although I can only make out a few interchangeable words between Chinese and Japanese - I can tell the ending is going to be heartbreaking, if not bittersweet. I do hope Setona Mizushiro decides to release another sequel in the future, where the boys have mellowed somewhat and can meet again.

Mizushiro Sentona is still my favourite BL mangaka, and you are still my favourite scanlator. I love your selections and the results of your hard work.

Ok, I will now proceed to ripping my hair out slowly until I see chapter 4. I know it is going to be bad but I can’t wait… Mizushiro sensei’s fans = masochist. Her sad stories are so damn poignant.

I have pretty much read all of her older works and her art really does keep changing, bit by bit, story to story. You can even see the differences between the prequel and the sequel for this. The prequel art is more similar to “The After School Nightmare” and the current one is closer to “Black Rose Alice” and “Heartbroken Chocolatier”. Maybe it is just me, but I think I much prefer circa 2006/07 the most; the works have a much smoother look, less clunky feel.
